What is VanRealLife?
It shines a spotlight on the real life in a van, for non-English speakers. And in all languages, it features authentic images, without staging, without embellishments, and without pretenses, showcasing the wonderful uniqueness of vanlife in its simplest form… VanRealLife is a return to the true face of van holidays, far from the idealized, filtered, and caricatured images that have falsely defined this mode of travel on social networks.
The hashtag #VanRealLife that we launched in recent weeks, includes moments like these:
On our blog , we are eager to reveal to you the different facets of this VanRealLife by speaking truthfully and concretely. Key points include, tips and things that are never told to you to prepare for your next adventures!
We also discuss, for example, the joys (or not) of family road trips or those of hygiene in a van , delving into topics as profound as solutions for answering nature's call when traveling in a converted vehicle.
Among other delights, we also give you advice on your favorite activities while on vacation, such as laundry and meal preparation! unless you want to live on love and fresh water, you won't escape it… 😉
Because yes, all of this is indeed part of van holidays. That's why we regularly focus on these little everyday things that make road trips charming...
Are you following us? Come on, we're going to have a great time!
Help us highlight this viewpoint that is more faithful to reality by sending us your funniest images, the most strikingly true, the rawest, the most nature-painting, the most spontaneous… and who knows, you might end up as a worthy representative of our community in the video we will soon share!
To answer this question, here is one that has imposed itself on us as we see this false idea of reality unfold:
Why should van travel be glamorous?
Here’s another one, for the road…
Isn't van travel, on the contrary, the answer to a quest for simplicity and authenticity?
Putting the van back in the middle of the curve is for us to put the church back in the middle of the village ;) And it’s the best way to make our mea culpa, because we have somewhat contributed to this falsification by sometimes showing a fantasized vision of wild camping.
Why do we want to embody the VanReaLife?
Since 2012, Wikicampers has been supporting owners and renters of vans, converted vans, and motorhomes, who share this desire for nomadic travel.
Alongside them, we have realized that the essence of this quest lies in the closeness to nature, conviviality, and the freedom to move, but also in the attraction to great thrills, spontaneity, and improvisation… even if it sometimes leads to getting bogged down in the pitfalls of reality!
What we remember at the end of a trip is not the most beautiful snapshot of the sunset, but the uncontrollable laughter in a rather embarrassing situation.
Far from clichés and stereotypes, we therefore wish to spread and share authentic images that embody the real daily life of a stay in a recreational vehicle…
What we love is...
the thrill of the unknown, the taste of the unexpected, spaced-out showers, the awkward charm of first times!
What we want is...
A concentrate of snapshots! Follow the movement with the hashtag #VanRealLife
To get back on the right track, Wikicampers proposes to challenge the overly fantasized image associated with vanlife, by opposing it with raw visuals that embody what nomadic travel really is. All of this, in a collaborative/participatory mode with its community, through an approach based on User Generated Content, that is, content created by users, in French.
To do this, we take all the clichés, commonplaces, stereotypes, shortcuts… and we push back a little, we gently mock them! All this to have a good laugh through a campaign that brings us back to reality
Goodbye to tidy and well-organized interiors, daily sunsets, perfect and overly tanned bodies, macramé flower pots… Welcome to breakdowns, leaks, rain, mud, spiders, roadblocks, snoring… all these hazards that spice up van life as it is truly experienced!
Who better than the enthusiasts of traveling in motorhomes, vans, and campervans to embody this perception of reality? That’s why Wikicampers invites its entire community to join in this massive campaign to destroy clichés. ;)
